One of those hopeless romantic days.
I made another post, but it led my brain into a tizzy, and I decided to post those thoughts instead.
The existence of a God:
We live in a very atheist, or at least agnostic generation. People just tend to have their doubts, which is reasonable I suppose, but they should at least reason it out entirely.
Eddie and I talk of this frequently. His arguments against God are always more against Creation that against the existence of a God, and this is where I think people percieve things incorrectly. They believe that if science has "proven" Creation wrong, then God must not exist.
Let me state, I believe in a God. And scientifically, I even think that Creation can be proven. There are some interesting reads on that, some very interesting theories that I have really looked into. And by the way, I do believe that evolution occurs, but not in the large molecule to monkey to man scale. Any sane person must agree with minor evolutions at least. I'm not one of those crazy conservative Christians that really need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask why they are so stupid. But that is besides the point.
Anyways, going back a paragraph. If the theory of evolution is correct, and the Creation, as described in the bible did not occur, why must God also not exist? My largest reason for believing in a omnipotent being is life itself. Science can not explain certain arrangements of molecules and atoms being together as creating life. I just can't see life being a random occurrence.
I feel in somewhat of a middle ground when I talk about stuff like this. Obviously I'm not an atheist or agnostic. But the Christians generally get mad at me for agreeing with evolution, and for this next part. Really, in my mind, I believe that there must be a God. But really, I can not find any way, in my mind, to prove that it is the Christian God. Just because I believe a God must exist, why can't it be Allah(which really is the same God, but Muhammed was his prophet....), or the Sun-God or whomever.
Looking up, that really sounds like heresy. I do believe in the Christian God. I've gone through some interesting theological times in the past year, but that is where I currently stand. I base my morals and ethics off of one rule, and one rule only, which I think is the best because every major religion has this rule or a version of it. The typical "Love your neighbor as if he were yourself" or "Treat your neighbor as yourself" business. I like it.
You run into some tricky philosophical issues with it.
Obviously it means things like stealing, rape, murder and the such are bad. What about other issues? Sex.
Now that is a tricky one. If the girl wants it, your treating her how she wants to be treated, right?
The Christian answer, at least when I've discussed this with people, is that you are hurting her future husband. Stealing part of her away from him. I kind of buy it. You do leave part of yourself with that person.
Drinking.
That is tricky to. The Bible just says "Drink not unto drunkeness." I guess drunkeness can hurt people. Who knows. Forgive me.
Abortion:
As a teen guy, I should be glad that it exists. You know, in that evil corner of your brain that whispers "what if..." But I couldn't do it. No way. If you have a kid, or do things that can lead to having a kid, then you should take responsibility for it. Maybe that's where the drunkeness would be really bad. But still, seriously, killing babies is not cool. That's so selfish, killing a future kid to keep your life happy. And don't tell me "Oh! What of the rape victims!" Because they are very few, and they can abort, fine.
Gay Marriage:
This is another tricky point between me and the Church. If you are treating your neighbors like you want to be treated, then you would let them get married. Fine, call it something different. Gay-rriage. Gay marriage. Civil Union. Whatever, just give them the same benefits. I'm not so sure about them raising kids though...
At this point I realize that I am really tired, that few people will read this far, and that I am entirely discussing my beliefs and values. Hopefully they interest some of you. I enjoy it at least. Wed, Jul. 27th, 2005, 09:20 pm Customer Please
What a gorgeous day.
I'm actually really looking forward to fall weather.
I am making this entry on my brand new Powerbook! Yay I am really excited about it.
This summer has been generally quite crazy. Actually my entire life is. Anything that ever was stable in my life, now isn't.
School is gone, as it always is in summer, but I am never going back to school as I know it, I'm off to college, which is ridiculous.
Then, running is gone. Actually, I have ran once since County Meet, and it was a 5k where I ran like 22 minutes or something. But that was such a huge focus of my life, and now I have entirely forsaken it. Partially because I hate summer weather for running, and partially because it cost me too much socially and mentally. So I am taking a break for now. I have been biking a little though.
Lastly, I am leaving my family. That is going to be really sad. The past two weeks I haven't seen my sisters at all until today, and I saw my mom only a little last week, because they were up north and I had to stay here and work and go to grad parties on weekends.
Work is stable I suppose, but in a not as good type of way. School was always amusing, no matter how much work you had to do, there always were a lot of pretty girls there and interesting people. Okay so maybe there still are a lot of pretty girls and interesting people, but I don't know. I guess I'll need to experience college to make me think high school was bad.
Well, I suppose that is all for now.
Love,

So, apparently renege on the France thing. It's not for sure, but I guess enough people aren't interested, so it probably won't go. Henceforth, I am thinking an East Coast trip, because the farthest East I have ever been is Niagara Falls. We need to get working on this. Tue, May. 31st, 2005, 10:04 pm
I usually don't update about things I do or that are going on, but I really should. The past several weeks have been unbelievable. But I can't right now.
So anyways, my graduation is June 25th. I'll be handing out little cards or something of that sort in the next week probably. Wed, May. 25th, 2005, 09:41 pm
So I might be going to France with my sister on the French trip this summer....

There is something heroic in distance running, quite different that anything else I have experienced at least. Tonight, I watched the milers and two milers and half-milers walk along the front stretch down to the starting line, and I kind of felt in awe of what they were about to do. Watching Blake Figgins and Knoll run that mile, with their last lap in 58 seconds, you know that they are out there, killing themselves, giving every last thing they have. I respect that, more than anything else. People consider runners crazy. Maybe they are, but you have to respect people choosing to go through hell like that.
Over the past few years, as I've come to realize that the "heroes" of this world are just regular people, like the rest of us, I still see great runners in a different light. I can't explain it, but I just do. Those guys out there, putting in all those miles, and just running ridiculously fast. It really is quite amazing to see some of these quick times being run. Well, a lot has happened recently. Mrs. Wagner told us that everyone expects too much out of Prom, so they end up not having a good time. That definitely was not the case. I must say that Prom was an amazing experience. Everything was grand, and I had a great time dancing, and I hope Rashi had a good time, and just everything was great. Afterwards I went to Jon's house, which was really a good time as well.
Everyone kind of says our class sucks and is all hateful towards each other and stuff, but I think that at least our group of people is a lot of fun. I love you guys.
Lastly, I saw Star Wars last night, which was really cool. I was disappointed in the number of costumed fans, but still, I experienced the end of an era, on opening night.
Regionals is tomorrow at Mott. So if you have nothing to do on a fine friday night, i will be running the 4x800 at about 4:45, and the two mile at about 10 o'clock I think. The two mile is more my race, and it will be cool running in the dark with the football lights on.
'Hey girl, you've got a fine laugh And I think that I can get used to that And you're already used to laughing at me'
I am excited for Prom.
I am excited for summer.
I am excited that I golfed for the first time this year today.
I am excited for Star Wars!
I am excited/scared for/of finishing high school.
I am excited for the all-night party.
I am excited. Tue, May. 3rd, 2005, 09:47 pm
Thanks, Butcher. I wrote a lot more, but it didn't sound good.
So just thanks to everyone at Butcher for making it such a great time. You guys are great. Wed, Apr. 27th, 2005, 09:53 pm
I like to dress up. Sat, Apr. 16th, 2005, 07:31 pm
Tomorrow at 2:30 at Nelson is baseball. Come and Play! Bring a glove or two though. Mon, Apr. 11th, 2005, 08:27 pm
Alright so next Sunday, April 17, you should all come up to Nelson Park at 2:30. Matt and I are trying to get a game of baseball together. I'm pretty sure we should be able to get enough people, so come play. Sun, Mar. 27th, 2005, 10:07 pm
It's not that I find it bad here, there is just some allure to leaving.
Happy Easter.
I must admit, I enjoy Easter. I think it's all the pastel colors. Come on, you know you like them too. There's also something about Spring being in the air that's exciting.
I keep getting home at like the same time every night, it's wierd. But things have been most enjoyable lately. I feel like a cup of tea. Fri, Mar. 25th, 2005, 12:38 am
Today was a most successful day. I did a lot of stuff.
I went to google, and the sign looked awkward. Apparently it is World Water Day! For such an important day, I would have never known that it was here, except for google.
I think I'm going to make a new livejournal. Because this one has outlived it's usefulness. You see, really it's based on a misunderstanding, which I never really even thought about until recently. Being who I am, I meant to make it "Delusions of grandeur" (a direct Star Wars quote), because I've always thought that sounded really cool. But it's too long. So it changed to "visions of grandeur" which is similar. But then that was still to long. So "visionofgrandur" it became. Oh well. So yeah I'll post the change, I'm sure. And I may not get around to it for a while, I've got a lot to do over the next few days.
Indoor county. Half Day. Spring Break.
I am excited. |
